"I am the door." St. John
We used to have ugly solid doors on the front of the church. These front doors looked like a prison that locked people out, and us in. A few years ago, we placed glass doors on the entrance of the church and what a difference those doors made to the entrance of our church. These doors say to visitors: "welcome, open doors and open hearts and open minds in here, just like these glass front doors." And they also say to us on the inside: "Open your heart to the world, go be his disciples not only in church but in the world!"
One of Jesus' "I am" statements (John's gospel is filled with them) is "I am the door." Jesus is the front door into the Kingdom. Doesn't he have a lot of "curb appeal." God gets to us through Jesus, and we get to God through Jesus. Jesus is the door from heaven and the door to heaven. Jesus, like a front door, shows us what is inside the heart of God. Christians believe that the most we will ever come to know about God is through Jesus, the door!
"The Lord is my shepherd." Yes, indeed!
But the Shepherd Lord is also "the door for the sheep." St. John
Bring a friend Sunday May 18 to come to know the Good Shepherd who is the door to God!
