"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrecion of Jesus Christ from the dead." 1 Peter 1
Easter begins our journey as Christians. The resurrection is spoken of on the day of our baptism: "Pour out your Holy Spirit, to bless this gift of water and those who receive it, to wash away their sin and clothe them in righteousness throughout their lives, that, dying and being raised with Christ, they may share in his final victory." It is spoken again on the day of our burial. We cannot live and die, we cannot be a Christian, we cannot be a church without remembering and celebrating and acknowleding the resurrection.
We gather because Christ wills us to gather. We survive as his church only because the risen Christ wills us to survive. The reason why we are the church is to celebrate and remember and proclaim the resurrection - that God has vindicated the one who loved to the end, that in his name and power we find life and peace, that in life and in life beyond death, God is with us.
Our stained glass window of the risen Christ, which is the first thing you see when you walk into the sanctuary, is a reminder to the church that we cannot be the church, we cannot be a Christian without the promise of risen Christ with us.
