"When we cry 'Abba! Father!' It is the Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and heirs with Christ.....likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness for we do not know how to pray as ought, but the Spirit intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words." Romans 8
Pentecost proclaims to the church that now all time and every place will be sacred, for all time and every place will be more fully filled with the fulness of God's presence and love through the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus, a church in Edgewater Maryland is as much apart of the holy land as a church in Jerusalem. Every moment of your life will be holy, because God, the Holy Spirit, is closer to you than your next breath. That is why I like to decorate and celebrate the feasts right; "more is more" I always say, and in the more of an altar decorated with lots of color and a worship service that is more uplifting than anything else, it all points back to the hope you will find in the "more" of your life. Life is not a drudgery of hopelessness but is filled with the brightness and the more of the Holy Spirit.
Even when you do not know how to pray, or what words to say to God, the Holy Spirit is there to intercede for you with "sighs too deep for words." Have you ever had moments when no words can come but only sighs, even then, because of Pentecost, Paul says, the Holy Spirit speaks up for us because we are heirs of heaven.
Do you see, because of Pentecost, every place and every moment and every bumbling attempt at prayer, is made holy by the promise of the presence of the Holy Sprit.
If there is a chapter of the Bible you must read and keep very close to your life it is Romans 8. If there is chapter that is near and dear to my heart it is Romans 8.
Please read it this week.
Come on, take out your Bible and find a quiet place, and turn to Romans 8 and read of the wonderful inheritance we have through Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Listen to the promises of Romans 8:
"There is now no condemnation for those in Christ!"
"All things work together for our good!"
"If God is for us, who can be against!"
"If God did not hold back his Son, will he not give us everything else as well!"
"We are heirs of God!"
"The Spirit intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words!"
"Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ!"
Pentecost proclaims that
no time, no place, no sin, no death, no power can keep us from God's good will for us.
We are held in every time and every place and every circumstance
by the power of the Holy Spirit always.
